New for 2008 is the Foundation's focus on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD has been brought to the forefront of public awareness by the plight of returning war veterans. The condition is not limited to the effects of war. It is documented in victimes of domestic violence, child abuse, violent crime, long-term hospitalization, and in Holocaust survivors and their families. Much of the treatment of PTSD is done by specially trained social service professionals, the supply of which is in constant need of replenishment.
The Foundation is determined to support those graduate students who are preparing themselves for a career helping PSTD victims and to support their schools and the agnecies that render such services. Gabe's Foundation will be a factor in helping to move these victims from pain to productivity.
We remain true to our purpose of helping the disabled, disadvantaged, and dispirited, as did Gabe, and we will continue our funding partial scholarships to graduate social service students and social service grants to agencies to supplement their compensation and benefits to their social service professionals. At the same time, the Foundation dedicates itself to meeting the needs of the traumatized.
